Mary Jensik's experience traveling to Utah – Part II

The following is a conversation my team member Sylvie Arnold had at the airport. A man noticed our matching jackets and asked what we were competing in.

Some random guy: “Softball?”
Sylvie: “No.”
Guy: “Cheerleaders?”
Sylvie: “No. Shakespeare.”

Guy: “That would have been guess 106.”
As we traveled from Milwaukee to Vegas and then to Cedar City, Utah, our bright purple jackets made us stand out. We had many glances as we skipped by with our excited energy. We were not just your average travelers, we were competitors and adventurers!

Traveling through the country was thrilling, and as we flew over mountains and canyons, we were in awe of the beautiful nature around us. Some of us have never been out this far west. The terrain of Utah, Nevada, and Arizona are truly inspiring.

As we wove through gigantic rock formations on the bus, I could not keep my mouth from gaping open. It was really humbling to travel through these majestic feats of nature; these rocks have been here for thousands of years before us and will be here for thousands of years after. Our trip was just a little glimpse of beauty in a world full of greatness.
Aside from the great views, we had a great time in our bus! Our driver Larry was amazing. We jammed out to our favorite music, while dancing under fun lights. We were very spoiled with Wi-and phone chargers. We also stopped at In-N-Out Burger and had a very yummy meal.
After arriving at the hotel and having a nice night sleep, a few headed out with First Stage's Director of Young Company Matt Daniels to get registered and do some yoga on the grounds. The weather was perfection, and the view of the mountains: Spectacular. As we explored Cedar City, we found little gems like book stores and coffee shops.
Team Yorick

During the competition, here’s what scenes were done:
The trio scene was with Sylvie, Chantae Miller, and Jonathan Neustifter in Act 4 Scene 3 of "Macbeth"
The duo scene was with Bradley Nowacek and myself in Act 2 Scene 4 of "Measure for Measure"
The monologues were by Jennie Babisch as Henry VI from "Henry VI Pt. 3", Kayla Salter as Volumnia from "Coriolanus", and Claire Zemple as Juliet from "Romeo and Juliet"

All the individual events were fabulous! We worked hard and were ready to show off our scenes.
