Message from Thief Lord author Cornelia Funke

Over the course of bringing a book to stage, a theater company forms many new relationships.  First Stage Artistic Director Jeff Frank was thrilled to write to Ms. Funke about the progress of adapting her rich story, THE THIEF LORD, for the stage. Shortly after opening night, Ms. Funke wrote:

I so wish I could have been a fly on the wall when the Thief Lord walked onto the first American stage and I wish you all the very very best in the name of Scipio and Prosper and Bo, who are all as grateful as I am that you tell their story!
All the very best from LA!
Cornelia

Cornelia,

Thank you so much for your kind words. I passed them on to the actors, and they were very excited to hear from you. You have been in our thoughts often during this journey to bring your novel to the stage. Even if you can’t get to Milwaukee, you can still get a glimpse of the show. Here’s a link to the webclip for the show:

Our audiences – both school groups and public – have loved the show. Thanks again for your willingness to let us produce this adaptation. It has been an honor.

All the best,
Jeff

Dear Jeff,

Thank you so much for this. It is MAGIC! It's such a shame that I am so flooded with work right now that I can't just get on a plane!

All the very best from the City of Angels,
Cornelia
