IMHO Question #2

12:03 PM
Would you like to win two tickets to our performance of THE WIZ? Answer our IMHO ("In My Humble Opinion") Question #2 at the bottom and you might!

Today, First Stage Children's Theater opens a world-premiere version of the original Tony-winning musical, THE WIZ, which first debuted on Broadway in 1975 as an urbanized African-American version of The Wizard of Oz. The film version of THE WIZ, starring Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Nipsey Russell, Lena Horne, and Richard Pryor, hit movie theaters three years later.

First Stage Children's Theater reports extremely strong interest in this new version for young audiences. Certainly, the untimely deaths of both Michael Jackson and Richard Pryor have amplified nostalgia for this musical. But it's more than that. THE WIZ was a remake that broke through racial barriers and thus became an original in its own right.

Which leads us to our IMHO Question. Who is out there today questioning the status quo and pushing boundaries? If you look at the cast of THE WIZ from 1975, and you had to recast everyone for today, who would play Michael Jackson? Diana Ross? Richard Pryor? And why?

Best answer wins!

If I were to recast the movie THE WIZ, I would cast Rihanna as Dorothy, because she is a very strong women, and a great performer. Rihanna is a very caring person. She created her BELIEVE FOUNDATION to help terminally ill children. She also takes action against causes in a very personal way. She helps fight HIV/AIDS and she even personally fought to help a girl that she had seen in a movie who needed a bonemarrow transplant, and honored her best friend for her help. For the Scarecrow, I would cast Johnny Depp because he is very different from other performers in the fact that he is a good role model. My mom on the other hand thinks that Lyle Loveit should play the scarecrow, because he looks like a scarecrow, and she thinks he can sing, even though I don't think he can (p.s. Johnny Depp can sing)(p.p.s.s VERY WELL). And for the Tinman, I would cast Eddie Murphy, becasue he supports the AIDS Foundation, and also cancer, education, creative arts, family/parent support, health and homeless charities. These people would make a great remake of THE WIZ because all of the actors and actresses have made a difference in society and people's lives.
