Supporter Spotlight: Many Ways to Show First Stage Love

Over the holidays, several First Stage supporters showed their love through creative and grassroots initiatives. Learn how these special people made a difference.

THIS THAT CHRISTMAS – A FAMILY HOLIDAY TURN-UP
On December 14, 2019, L.A.-based TV Writer, Comedian and Actor, (and First Stage alum) Joel Boyd returned to Milwaukee to host his Third Annual Fundraiser Holiday Comedy Show. His show featured Chicago and Milwaukee-based comedians, Sammy Arechar, Jarrell Scott Barnes, Ty Riggs, Dana Ehrmann, and musical guest, MaYah Flaw, along with First Stage’s Organized Chaos students.

Boyd’s lively event served as a fundraiser for the MLK Scholarship Fund as well as First Stage’s Kid to Kid Fund. Successfully, his event broke all records and raised $1,500 for both programs.

“I think the main reason that I try and come back and really make a difference in my hometown is because, honestly it’s… the best way to give back is to your city.” – Joel Boyd

SPREAD CHRISTMAS CHEER FOR ALL TO HEAR – ELVES STUDIO
Also on December 14, 2019, our friends at Splash Studio hosted a Sing-Along Fundraiser to help raise funds to support First Stage. The event featured First Stage performers leading a Christmas song sing-a-long and was free for all to attend. In addition, they promoted a special ELF themed cocktail (SparkleJazzyJingles) throughout the month and a portion of its proceeds were given to First Stage. Over all, their efforts raised $1,416! Bars & Recreation is an incredible asset to the Milwaukee community and we are so grateful for their partnership during our run of ELF, THE MUSICAL and their Elves Studio.

ELF CABARET
On December 30, 2019, cast members—professional adults and young performers—of First Stage’s hit-production of ELF: THE MUSICAL put together a treat for audiences at the Saint Kate Arts Hotel. The cabaret was a grassroots initiative put together by actors, Kelly Doherty (aka Deb/Mrs. Claus) and Adam LaSalle (aka Buddy), in order to raise funds for the First Stage’s Kid to Kid Fund. They successfully raised more than $600 in donations.

“It’s important to perform in this cabaret because the scholarship funds we raise make it possible for me and other students to continue our Theater Academy training. Thank you.” – ELF: THE MUSICAL young performer

“First Stage was a place that fostered my love of the arts. What I want to say to all the kids, but especially our young performers, never let anybody tell you no. Defy expectations.”  First Stage Alumna and ELF: THE MUSICAL actor
