Responding to overwhelming demand from our students and teachers, First Stage Children's Theater is excited to announce the launch of our very own Glee Club. Beginning in January of 2011, First Stage will offer Glee Club on Saturday afternoons at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center. The class will be open to students in grades 7 – 12. Admission to the class is by audition. Auditions are scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 30th, 2010.
In an effort to create a unique, collaborative group of students from different areas, background, and experience, Glee Club hopes to pull in students from all around southeastern Wisconsin. But don’t worry – there will be no tossing – either of slushies in faces or people in dumpsters. This is First Stage, after all, and one of our core beliefs is that all students will feel safe to express themselves, no matter what.
For Academy students, Glee Club will fill a need.  Said Academy Director John Maclay, "For some time now, we have wanted to add a more intense musical theater class to our School Year Academy offering. Like Organized Chaos, a class for advanced improv students, and Young Company, a class for advanced acting students, Glee Club will provide training for students seeking a high end swing choir experience."
Students in Glee Club will learn to sing, dance, and act while in the musical moment. The inaugural class will culminate with a performance in the spring.  Down the road, First Stage plans to find many performance opportunites for this special group that may become a sort of traveling troupe.
