Della Wells creates art with Boys and Girls Club students

Students from the Daniels-Mardak Boys and Girls Club work side by side with Milwaukee collage artist Della Wells, creating a large-scale collage that ponders the question, “What does it mean to fly?”  The program runs every Tuesday and Thursday through August 4 and is part of a partnership between First Stage, Milwaukee artist Della Wells and the Daniels-Mardak Boys and Girls Club.

Following the residency, the collage will be exhibited with original work by Della Wells at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center located at 325 W. Walnut Street, Milwaukee, in an exhibition entitled What it Means to Fly from October 7 - December 31, 2011.  The partnership and exhibition are presented in conjunction with the First Stage’s world premiere production DON’T TELL ME I CAN’T FLY, an original play by Y York based on the life and work of Della Wells, October 28 through November 13, 2011.

DON'T TELL ME I CAN'T FLY was part of the Kennedy Center's New Visions/New Voices Biennial Festival last year, find out more HERE.
